Joseph Paul Kirk, 33, died Friday morning, July 25, 2008.





Joe was born January 21, 1975 in Del Rio, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and in the Ogden area of Utah. He was a true sports fan and active in basketball and golf. He had a reputation as a worthy competitor. He also enjoyed music, movies, and dancing.





Joe had many friends, was very generous in giving wherever there was a need, and was known for his charming personality and his continuous smile.





Above everything else in importance to Joe, was his family and friends, especially his two daughters, Taylor and Rylee Jo. He enjoyed everyone around him. If he had one defining characteristic it was his love for people and his ability to make friends wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Taitague Kirk, his grandparents, Joseph and Lourdes Taitague of Guam, and his grandparents, William Paul and Mildred Kirk of Nashville, Tennessee.





Joe is survived by two daughters, Taylor Marie Coffey, of South Ogden; and Rylee Jo Kirk, of Layton; his father, William C. Kirk, of Roy; his sister, Emily K. Frandsen (David), of Riverdale; and his two nephews, Connor and Cooper Frandsen, of Riverdale.





Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.





Friends and family may call on Monday, July 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.





A memorial fund has been set up for his two daughters and donations are being accepted at any America First Credit Union branch under the name of Joseph Kirk Memorial Fund.

RIVERDALE — A 33-year-old Roy man died early Friday after a suspected drunken driver fleeing from police ran a red light and collided with his vehicle.The incident began around 1 a.m. when an officer attempted to pull over Phillip Andrew Ben, 28, of Layton, on Riverdale Road at 650 West for an insurance violation. Ben pulled the newer model Chevy Impala to the side of the road briefly but decided to speed off, said Lt. James Ebert. Because of the erratic way Ben changed lanes to pull over, the officer became suspicious that he might have been impaired.Ben accelerated through about four green lights heading north on Riverdale when the light at the intersection with 36th Street turned red in front of him, Ebert said. The pursuing officer, several blocks behind the suspect, was contemplating terminating the chase when the Impala blew through the red light and collided with a 1987 Honda Accord heading west on 36th, Ebert said.The driver of the Accord, Joseph Paul Kirk, 33, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Ebert said.Ben’s car bounced over the curb and collided with two cars in the parking lot of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He then jumped out and fled the accident on foot, hiding nearby, Ebert said.Police set up a perimeter around the area, causing the suspect to spook from his hiding place and run again, Ebert said. A citizen saw him running and attempted unsuccessfully to tackle him, but slowed him enough for police to catch up, Ebert said. Ben struggled with officers and was shocked twice with a Taser before police were able to handcuff him, Ebert said. He was transported to the hospital and released several hours later when he was booked into Weber County Jail on felony charges of evading police, DUI, vehicular homicide and several outstanding warrants, Ebert said. A search of his criminal record found numerous outstanding warrants for traffic violations, including failing to stop at the command of the law, driving on a denied license and driving on an alcohol restriction.
